advice on building good links
On site optimisation is basically a set of rules or guide lines that we know the search engines expect a website to have in place as standard. While it is not always possible to adhere to this set of rules all the time, perhaps due to an old design, it/they should be looked at and put in place where ever possible. So, the initial on site optimisation is something that can be completed quickly and is the starting point from which you can start to build your on line presence. Off site optimisation is where the on going and time consuming graft comes in, this is the area that many often over look or become disillusioned with and that is when the rot can set in.
Obtaining good links from other sites to your website is the best way for you to gain higher positions in the organic search results on the Google search engine. Simply, the more people linking to your site will convert in search engine speak as authority. If many people are linking to certain pages and products on your website, there must be something good about you.
Many people have done or do pay a company to submit their site to thousands of directories and similar in order to create the illusion of an authoritative site. Whilst this once worked for some sites the engines get smarter every day and will now 9/10 disregard 'empty' back links obtained in this way, some say a site adopting these tactics can be black marked, I don't know what that means in the real world but it can't be good. So, stay away from people offering you the Holy Grail as I'm pretty sure it is not something that can be found outsourced to a back room in India.
Read up on links before you pay anyone or do anything it could be the difference between sucess and failure.
